EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Southeast Community College opened its new 100,000-square-foot Welding Technology Center on its Lincoln campus Thursday, August 21 during a ribbon-cutting with local and state officials. The $33 million facility features 196 welding booths and advanced labs that will expand the program to 500 students—SCC president Paul Illich called it one of the college’s most significant accomplishments. - ➤ City officials updated residents on Thursday that 263 lead water service lines have been replaced since the program began in July last year in neighborhoods such as North Bottoms, Woods Park and Hawley. Crews will continue replacing lines in other areas through 2026 as part of Lead Safe Lincoln — a voluntary initiative funded by federal and local partners to prevent lead exposure. KOLN
- ➤ The Lincoln-Lancaster County Planning Commission voted unanimously to let Oxford House Orison near 16th and E streets expand from six to 10 residents by reclassifying it as a Collaborative Living Facility—reducing the parking requirement from five to four. - ➤ Lighthouse Autism Center announced on Thursday it will keep offering ABA therapy to Nebraska families despite a 48% Medicaid cut that began on Aug. 1.
