  • Lincoln Police are investigating a deadly motorcycle crash that occurred Saturday at N.48th St. and Leighton Ave.—the area is closed for investigation and crash reconstruction.  KOLN

  • Lincoln Paddle Company will end its Holmes Lake rentals after Labor Day weekend after five years of giving locals a chance to enjoy nature—owner Kyle Winchell will launch Float Nebraska to offer new water adventures across the state.  KOLN

CRIME NEWS

  • Nebraska State Patrol troopers arrested Travis Knipp, 29, after a high-speed pursuit near Lincoln that began on I-80 when a trooper attempted to stop his motorcycle with no license plates — the chase on Highway 77 ended when his bike ran out of gas, and he was charged with flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, and traffic violations.  KFOR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former police officer Spilker sued the city for not addressing her claims of sex discrimination, and both sides argued over how many depositions should be allowed. A judge extended the deposition deadline to Oct. 31 and capped depositions at 90 hours per side—rules that may help set the case for trial.  Lincoln Journal Star

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Nebraska Football Team announced their 2025 captains on Saturday, naming six players including Dylan Raiola, Dane Key, Henry Lutovsky, Marques Buford Jr., DeShon Singleton and Ceyair Wright. The team will play its first game on Aug. 28 against the Cincinnati Bearcats at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium at 8 p.m.  KNOP
  • Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule launched his weekly 'House Rhules' podcast on Thursday with co-host Anthony Gargano to share his thoughts on football, professional sports and pop culture and to help players earn NIL money. He said the show—part of a bigger push to build the team brand—will give fans an inside look at his program as the Huskers prepare to open against Cincinnati on Thursday at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.  Nebraska Now
