BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Two Nebraska Claire’s locations and two Icing stores, including the Gateway Mall outlet in Lincoln, will close on a rolling basis as part of Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings—over 290 stores nationwide are set to shutter. Six other Claire’s outlets remain open following the recent sale of the company’s North American business. KOLN
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Aug. 14 a Lincoln couple—Ryan Greenwood, 36, and Tanya Greenwood, 28—were charged with child abuse after their 4-month-old daughter died from injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome; Ryan said he called 911 when he found her unresponsive after rough play while Tanya claimed she was not allowed to seek medical help, and both have already appeared in court with bond set at 10% of $1.5 million with no contact conditions for minors. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lincoln will offer new heat pump incentives starting Monday Sept. 1 to help homeowners save money on energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Homeowners who install a new heat pump can receive up to $3,800 — with extra benefits offered by the city and LES — and may combine the program with federal tax credits until December 31. KFOR
- ➤ Advocates for All Nebraskans announced a new ballot reform effort for 2026 to cut property taxes by halving home value assessments and capping annual increases, and Sen. R. Brad von Gillern warned that without a new revenue source the plan could harm education and county services—he noted no economic modeling had been shared with his office. KOLN

- ➤ Nebraska won against Cincinnati 20—17 on Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium. The Huskers made 353 yards—and controlled the game with key plays before they will face Akron on Sept. 6 in Lincoln on the Big Ten Network. Nebraska Now
- ➤ Lincoln Southeast began its season with a 30-0 win over Grand Island on Thursday. The team executed a trick play early in the second quarter—when quarterback Gavin Semm passed to Nate Appleget—to secure the shutout and will face Lincoln Southwest next Friday. Nebraska Now
