- ➤ Federal immigration agents arrested Melvin Varela Perez on July 9 with help from local law enforcement and Flock Safety cameras—whose logs show over 20 immigration-related searches from January through June—that helped narrow the suspect's location while officials said the system is used only for criminal cases. - ➤ Federal immigration agents arrested Melvin Varela Perez on July 9 in Omaha using license plate readers and thanked local police and Flock Safety for helping catch him — the system also recorded searches tied to MS-13 that have raised local privacy concerns among community groups. KOLN
- ➤ Beginning Sept. 1, the City of Lincoln and Lincoln Electric System offer homeowners up to $3,800 in heat pump installation incentives to reduce energy costs and lower greenhouse gas emissions. Homeowners can get $500 for replacing an old heat pump or $1,500 for replacing an air conditioner — low- to moderate-income residents may receive up to $3,000 while funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis. - ➤ The city of Lincoln and Lincoln Electric System announced that heat pump incentives will be available beginning Monday to help homeowners lower energy costs and improve efficiency. - ➤ Residents are invited to a design open house meeting hosted by Lincoln Transportation and Utilities at West Lincoln Elementary School gymnasium, Door 9 on Sept. 11 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.—they will offer input on plans to replace traffic signals and update pavement, sidewalks, curb ramps, and a nearby trail at the intersection of N 1st Street and Cornhusker Highway, with construction possibly starting in 2027 at an estimated cost of $3.8 million funded by Highway Allocation and federal funds.
