- ➤ Lincoln’s Museum of American Speed was named the best motor racing museum by Newsweek readers, and the museum spans 300,000 square feet showing over 480 cars that tell the story of American racing. KOLN
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UNL Chancellor Rodney Bennett announced Friday a plan to cut the university budget by $27.5 million for Fiscal Year 2026. The proposal reduces $21 million to close a gap—and $6.5 million for program cuts and realignments, and it will be reviewed by the Academic Planning Committee before a final decision in December. - ➤ United Ground Express at Lincoln Airport earned the prestigious Gold Safety Excellence Award on Friday—making it the second regional line station to achieve this milestone in United Airlines’ Safety Excellence program. The award reflects a strong safety record with 200 days free of OSHA-recordable incidents, 259 days without a lost-time injury, and no aircraft incidents since 2016, and the team will aim for platinum-level recognition in the future. - ➤ Nebraska Senators held a hearing on LR 148 regarding the repurposing of the Work Ethic Camp in McCook on Friday morning—protesters gathered outside the Governor’s Residence while lawmakers discussed building code issues and prison overcrowding, and Gov. Pillen’s team did not attend, sending a letter that explained the facility would not trigger additional overcrowding laws. KNOP
- ➤ The State of Nebraska is addressing a bedbugs problem in a downtown office building at 14th and M where DHHS offices were affected — officials report temporary closures and remote work for employees as cleaning crews carry out vacuuming, laundering, steam cleaning and chemical treatments. KOLN

- ➤ Haymarket Park was voted the American Association’s Playing Surface of the Year for the 24th time, marking a record run for the Saltdogs—this honor credits the hard work of grounds crew led by Kyle Trewhitt and others who keep the field in top shape. The park serves as the home field for both the Lincoln Saltdogs and University baseball teams and seats around 8,500 fans. KFOR
- ➤ On Friday night, Creighton Prep beat Lincoln Southeast at Seacrest Field—Nico Kocmich’s 65—yard reverse punt return sealed the 31—10 victory; the Jr. Jays improved to 3—0 and will play Millard West next Friday while the Knights face Norfolk on Thursday. Nebraska Now
