GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Advocates for rural internet and telecom companies have criticized state officials for proposing to spend only $43.8 million of the $405 million in federal broadband funds, saying this leaves over 10,000 rural locations with less reliable satellite or wireless service—raising concerns that Nebraska may return $350 million in unspent funds to Washington. Critics warn that this focus on lower-cost technology may delay the reliable fiber optic deployments needed for lasting high-speed internet.  Nebraska Examiner
