BUSINESS NEWS

  • Nebraska Innovation Studio in Lincoln is celebrating 10 years by launching the Frontier Tech Lab to connect entrepreneurs with makers and students. The studio will host an open house on Oct 6 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. + key figures will speak at 4 p.m. to mark the event.  Fox Nebraska

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gov. Pillen announced at St. Teresa Catholic School that Nebraska will join a federal voucher program offering tax credits to donors—available starting Jan. 1st 2027—for households including those earning over $200,000. Tim Royers from the Nebraska State Education Association said the move could shift funds away from public schools.  Fox Nebraska
  • The Academic Planning Committee will hold a series of livestreamed hearings between Oct 1 and 10 to gather input on UNL’s $27.5 million budget reduction—this feedback will help Chancellor Bennett draft a final plan for the Board of Regents in December.  KOLN
  • Lincoln Lutheran held its groundbreaking on Sept. 3 for its $2.1 million Warrior Wellness Center that will open early next year—featuring 14 weight rack stations, high-performance treadmills, an indoor turf and track lane, and two multipurpose classrooms—funded mostly by private donations and fundraising to support growing enrollment.  Nebraska News Service

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City leaders voted to tear down the old Aging Partners Fitness Center to make a short-term parking lot for city and county workers — they asked for a new design that looks nicer near the Capitol. The parking lot will help ease parking needs while nearby construction continues — it may last for many years.  Lincoln Journal Star
  • The Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department announced that the Jamaica North Trailhead parking lot will close today for gravel resurfacing and is expected to reopen Thursday. The department also stated that the Roper Park east and west lots will close Thursday for resurfacing and be completed by Oct. 10 — local users are advised to use nearby alternative parking spots.  Nebraska Now
  • Two liquor board members resigned at the governor’s request after federal charges were unsealed against a former director—Bruce Bailey and Kim Lowe stepped down despite not being implicated, allowing governor Jim Pillen to appoint all new members. The governor’s office will accept applications by Oct. 17 to fill the vacancies.  Nebraska Examiner
  • Lincoln City Golf announced plans to spend $2.3 million on improvements to two courses—Pioneers and Holmes Park. The agency said work on a $400,000 cart path at Pioneers will begin in late October while a $1.9 million irrigation project at Holmes Park is underway and will finish by spring.  Nebraska Now
  • Governor Jim Pillen, joined by Congressman Adrian Smith and Congressman Mike Flood, announced Nebraska’s intent to opt into the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit on Monday afternoon at St. Teresa Catholic School in Lincoln — the program is designed to expand school choices without costing the state.  KOLN

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Nebraska wrestling team is preparing for a tough season as they will face 11 top finishers from last season’s NCAA Championships; the Huskers will start on Nov. 2 at Navy Classic and will later host Army and compete in tournaments through March, ending with the NCAA Championships in Cleveland.  Fox Nebraska
  • After a bye week, the Huskers will try to bounce back from a 30-27 loss as they host Michigan State on Saturday at 3 p.m. The team is 3-1 and led by Dylan Raiola's strong passing while the Spartans recently won their last two matchups, making the game a key test for Nebraska.  KOLN
  • Nebraska’s football game at Maryland—set to kick off at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 11—will air on BTN. Today, Nebraska will host Michigan State for Homecoming at Memorial Stadium as the contest is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. on FS1.  KFOR
