CULTURE NEWS

  • Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai, the author of Dust Child, will speak at the Lincoln High School auditorium at 2229 J. St.—the One Book One Lincoln event is set for November 3 at 7 p.m.—she will share insights into her work.  Lincoln Journal Star

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State climatologist Dr. Deborah Bathke will present her annual climate change report at a Lincoln church on October 16th, where she will describe how Nebraska is getting warmer & wetter. The report highlights recent regional trends in climate change.  Lincoln Journal Star

HEALTH NEWS

  • Postpartum Support International held its second Climb event at Wayne Park in Waverly on October 11 to raise awareness and support for mothers facing mental health challenges. Leaders said the walk provided tips and resources that help connect families battling depression and anxiety during and after pregnancy.  KOLN

  • Residents in Lincoln can enjoy fall fun by riding hayracks and picking pumpkins as the crisp autumn air brings seasonal activities to the area—families can experience local traditions during this time.  Lincoln Journal Star

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local college football games on Saturday ended with Concordia losing 60-52 in double overtime to Midland on Homecoming, Nebraska Wesleyan falling 31-28 to Loras in a comeback, and Doane suffering its second straight defeat—losing 31-14 to Mount Marty after a brief halftime lead.  Nebraska Now
  • Nebraska beat the Terrapins 34-31 on Saturday, October 11 in College Park—where a close contest tested both teams—and freshman quarterback Malik Washington led the Huskers as they improved their season record.  KOLN
  • On Saturday, Nebraska football won a close road game against Maryland 34-31 with Emmett Johnson rushing for a career-high 176 yards—Dylan Raiola threw for 260 yards and Nyziah Hunter scored two touchdowns as the Huskers rallied late. The Huskers will play Minnesota on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.  Nebraska Now
