- ➤ Off Leash Dog Bar on M Street welcomes kids with a parent to play with its dogs on Tuesdays and Sundays—offering a safe environment for children to learn proper pet interaction. KOLN
- ➤ Shay Homeyer (CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln) explained what inspires her work in an interview, and her comments (highlighting plans for future local housing projects) detail the nonprofit's community goals. Lincoln Journal Star
- ➤ On Saturday, nine groups delivered 45 beds to more than a dozen families in Lincoln after 300 volunteers built 140 beds and St. Mark's Methodist Church raised $104,000 in one month - a key step in Sleep in Heavenly Peace's effort to help kids sleep off the floor. - ➤ On January 24, the American Heart Association held its Heart Ball featuring Lincoln native Nick Powers, who collapsed during a half marathon due to an undetected heart defect and was hospitalized for a week (he now urges others to check their heart health). KOLN
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ After a win over Maryland Saturday, Nebraska entered the AP Top 25 after a 5-1 start, marking their first ranking this season. KNOP
- ➤ Lincoln High runner Sydney Wendt won the city championship on Oct. 3 with a time of 19:32—she became the first Lincoln High student to do so since 1991. She then set a new personal best of 19:11 at the Heartland Conference meet five days later and will compete at districts on Oct. 15. Nebraska Now
- ➤ The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team swept No. 12 Purdue with wins of 25-23, 25-16, and 25-15 at Holloway Gymnasium on Sunday as Harper Murray and Andi Jackson led the team. The Huskers (16-0 overall, 6-0 Big Ten) will face Michigan State Friday at 6 p.m. and Michigan Sunday at 1 p.m. KNOP
