- ➤ Families of missing persons gather at the North Plaza of the Capitol at 10 a.m. today for Nebraska’s second annual Missing Persons’ Day — an event founded by Jannel Rap to honor her missing sister and support others faced with similar hardships. Nebraska State Sen. Danielle Conrad and Senate candidate Dan Osborn will speak to raise awareness and encourage better law enforcement coordination. Nebraska News Service

- ➤ EducationQuest Foundation awarded nearly $56,000 in grants to 86 Nebraska schools to support 8th-grade campus visits during the 2025-26 school year — a program that has given over $485,000 since 2011 to help students prepare for college. Fox Nebraska

- ➤ Lincoln Children’s Zoo announced the birth of an endangered Matschie’s tree kangaroo joey born around April 12 to mother Judie and father Bexley inside the Animal Kingdom Building — the zoo said its sex and name will be revealed later. KOLN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lincoln city officials announced an expanded winter plan that adds 20 trucks and 60 plows—up to 100 extra contractor plows—to clear roads using 8,000 tons of salt and on-site made brine that cuts costs. They urge residents to drive carefully around crews and join the Snow Angels Volunteer Program while inviting locals to name eight snowplows by November 5th. Fox Nebraska
- ➤ The Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department announced its annual snowplow naming contest, with residents able to submit names through Nov. 5 — winners from December votes will see their chosen names on eight snowplows next winter and receive free prizes. Nebraska Now
- ➤ The Nebraska Farm Bureau urged congressional leaders to pass an aid package to help farmers deal with U.S.-China trade tensions and a government shutdown that delayed critical crop reports — fifth-generation farmer Tom Mueller said his harvest was hurt by backlogged grain sales. Nebraska Farm Bureau president Mark McHargue added that the package would include fair trade agreements, market transparency measures and support for renewable fuels. KOLN

- ➤ Today, Nebraska and Minnesota face off in the Broken Chair Trophy game as fans raise funds for good causes. Team Jack Foundation has raised $16,000 for childhood brain cancer research — Minnesota has raised $10,000 for the Masonic Children’s Hospital and both teams aim to reach $30,000 in total. KNOP
- ➤ Lincoln Southwest remained undefeated in the NSAA State Softball Tournament on Oct. 15 at the Smith Softball Complex in Hastings—winning 2-1 over Bellevue East and shutting out Omaha Westside 6-0; the team advanced to the Class A winner’s bracket semifinal. KFOR
- ➤ Nebraska will play BYU in an exhibition basketball game at Pinnacle Bank Arena at 12:01 p.m. on Saturday — it is the first of two exhibition games before the Nov. 3 opener against West Georgia, and returning player Jamarques Lawrence will lead the team. Fox Nebraska
- ➤ Nebraska Wesleyan senior defensive lineman Hunter Hanke earned D3football.com Team of the Week honors after his team lost 31-28 to Loras College — he recorded 10 tackles, three sacks, five tackles for loss and a forced fumble. He is the second player from Nebraska Wesleyan to win the award since Shaka Taylor in 2017 and the Prairie Wolves will face No. 18 Central College on the road in Pella on Saturday. Nebraska Now
