COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Lincoln nonprofit hosted its second annual fundraiser at Lazlo’s Brewery — drawing local bidders for items like Husker football tickets to raise funds that will help feed children on weekends. The event also aimed to expand community outreach and support kids who face food insecurity.  Nebraska Now
  • Phillip’s Lincoln Lights helps neighbors enjoy spooky Halloween displays while hosting a contest for the best decorations—voting is open until the end of October. The project started as a way for his family to find festive homes and has grown to over 38,000 Facebook members, with plans to add a Christmas map in November.  Nebraska Now
  • Last Sunday, Paws 4 Fun hosted its Bark at the Moon event in Lincoln where dogs in costumes roamed vendors for treats and services — both for pets and their owners. The event also featured a costume contest with photos submitted on Facebook and the winner to be announced soon.  KOLN

  • Doctor David Voigt retired after 30 years as a general surgeon at CHI St. Elizabeth’s burn center. His son Charles will soon take over the role and continue the healing tradition in Lincoln.  Lincoln Journal Star

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nebraska football will play Northwestern at Memorial Stadium on Oct. 25 at 11 a.m.—the game will air on FS1—and the matchup follows a heavy loss to Minnesota.  Nebraska Now
  • On Sunday in Los Angeles, the Nebraska soccer team lost 3—0 to the UCLA Bruins as they allowed 28 shots while only taking 5 and goalie Cece Villa made nine saves in the first half. The team now has an 8—4—5 record and will face the Michigan State Spartans on Oct. 26 at Barbara Hibner Stadium.  KNOP
  • Nebraska secured the top spot in the NCAA volleyball committee’s in-season top 16 rankings on Sunday — the committee considered matches through Saturday and the Huskers remain undefeated after sweeping eight opponents and not losing a set since Sept 16.  Nebraska Now
  • The NCAA DI women's volleyball committee announced its top-16 rankings on Sunday and placed Nebraska first after reviewing games played through Oct. 18. The rankings give fans an early look at potential tournament seedings with Selection Sunday set for Nov. 30 and later matches scheduled in December at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City.  KNOP
  • On Sunday, Nebraska volleyball swept Michigan by winning 25-18, 25-13 and 25-18 in a sold-out game at Crisler Center with Harper Murray leading with nine kills and Andi Jackson contributing eight kills plus six blocks. Nebraska was named the No. 1 seed in the NCAA in-season top 16 rankings and will face Northwestern on Friday then Michigan State on Saturday.  Nebraska Now
  • The Huskers announced that the Northwestern game will begin at 11 a.m. on FS1 at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 25.  KNOP
