- ➤ CenterPointe is hosting its annual winter essentials donation drive to help people stay safe and warm—donations of new or gently used coats, gloves, hats, scarves, blankets, sleeping bags, socks, and kids’ toys are accepted until Nov. 14 at Campus for Health & WellBeing in Lincoln and Campus for Hope in Omaha. The drive helps individuals working toward recovery by meeting basic needs for the winter season. KOLN

- ➤ The NE Chamber and UNL College of Business announced the 2026 inductees for the Nebraska Business Hall of Fame—three business leaders noted for strengthening the state’s economy. DJ Eihusen, Rodrigo López, and John E. Olsson will be honored at the banquet on Jan. 29 at the Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel. Fox Nebraska

- ➤ Memorial Stadium in Lincoln will host The Boys From Oklahoma show featuring Cross Canadian Ragweed, Turnpike Troubadours, Cody Jinks and Flatland Cavalry on August 22, 2026. Pre-sale registration is open until Oct. 27 at 5 p.m.—tickets will be available on Oct. 29 at 10 a.m. and general public sales begin on Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. Nebraska Now
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ About 380 fourth and fifth graders from local schools visited the Ag Literacy Festival at the Sandhills Global Event Center to learn how farms work. They cycled through 10 stations—exploring crop harvesting, farming technology and live animals—to see how food reaches the table. KOLN
- ➤ Lincoln Public Schools students from Robinson Elementary visited the 98th Street water main site on Wednesday and signed a section of the pipeline to learn about clean water and infrastructure+Mayor Gaylor Baird joined the event to support the project. The project is part of Water 2.0 and will eventually connect Lincoln to the Missouri River by putting the pipeline underground. KOLN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Normal Boulevard from 33rd to 48th Street reopened to traffic on Wednesday morning, though cones still block the intersection at 48th and Normal as work nears full completion. Lincoln Transportation and Utilities said the project is scheduled to finish by Nov. 3 (with improvements already underway along three miles of the roadway) and will host a press conference on Oct. 30. - ➤ A USDA letter announced that SNAP benefits will be on hold in November if the government shutdown continues—Nebraska DHHS said it is ready to notify recipients of any changes. The USDA noted that funds are available only through October, a gap that could affect 42 million people nationwide. KNOP
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Nebraska volleyball team will play postseason matches in a bigger venue as officials look at using Pinnacle Bank Arena in December to allow more fans to watch the games. The change would last for one weekend—either for the opening rounds or regionals—and switch the games from the usual Bob Devaney Sports Center. KNOP
