- ➤ Audrey Eckert, Miss Nebraska USA, was crowned Miss USA on Friday night at the 74th Miss USA pageant at Nevada’s Grand Sierra Resort—she battled 50 other contestants. The 23-year-old, a University of Nebraska-Lincoln graduate and former Husker Cheer Squad captain, will now prepare to compete at Miss Universe on Nov. 21 in Thailand. KNOP

- ➤ City officials have urged residents to keep leaves off streets because too many leaves can block drainage and lead to localized flooding and odors in neighborhood creeks, as a city ordinance requires property owners to clean up their sidewalk areas. They recommended mulching, composting, or taking leaves to a designated yard waste site for weekly pickup (no pickup during Thanksgiving week). Fox Nebraska

- ➤ The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department reminds Lincoln residents to get the flu vaccine — flu season has begun and low current activity offers time to protect against rising cases.
