  • Lincoln kindergartener Jase Johnson from Faith Lutheran School is spending a Husker-filled weekend arranged by Vital Services and Dream on 3 as he rides in a limo and visits a basketball training complex to meet Nebraska volleyball players and gymnast Chase Mondi — his mother says the day will create lasting memories.  KOLN

CULTURE NEWS

  • Audrey Eckert, Miss Nebraska USA, was crowned Miss USA on Friday night at the 74th Miss USA pageant at Nevada’s Grand Sierra Resort—she battled 50 other contestants. The 23-year-old, a University of Nebraska-Lincoln graduate and former Husker Cheer Squad captain, will now prepare to compete at Miss Universe on Nov. 21 in Thailand.  KNOP

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials have urged residents to keep leaves off streets because too many leaves can block drainage and lead to localized flooding and odors in neighborhood creeks, as a city ordinance requires property owners to clean up their sidewalk areas. They recommended mulching, composting, or taking leaves to a designated yard waste site for weekly pickup (no pickup during Thanksgiving week).  Fox Nebraska

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department reminds Lincoln residents to get the flu vaccine — flu season has begun and low current activity offers time to protect against rising cases. The vaccine is available at local clinics and pharmacies, with eligible children offered free or low-cost shots.  KOLN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nebraska volleyball beat Northwestern 3-0 at the Devaney Center on Friday night during its Pink Match to honor those affected by breast cancer—marking its 10th straight sweep with a set streak of 31. The team will play Michigan State today at 7:30 p.m.  Nebraska Now
  • Lincoln East beat Lincoln Southeast 27-14 at Seacrest Field Friday night to clinch a playoff berth. Head Coach John Gingery said the Spartans rose to the win-or-go-home challenge and scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter amid tough weather delays.  Nebraska Now
  • Seven local cross country runners earned state medals at the finals in Kearney. Lincoln schools delivered strong performances as Lincoln North Star placed second in Class A and Lincoln Pius X won in Class B—highlighting local team success.  KNOP
  • After a two-week road trip, the Cornhuskers welcome the Northwestern Wildcats at Memorial Stadium at 11 a.m. today—head coach Matt Rhule said the team is determined to improve its play and fight for bowl eligibility.  KNOP
  • Lincoln Standing Bear finished its season with a win against Beatrice, shutting them out 26 to 0 at UBT Stadium as senior Braelon Coke scored on a 10-yard run and Hayden Holdren later threw a 35-yard pass to Hyrym Duggar. The season ended at 4 to 5 for the Grizzlies while Beatrice finished at 0 to 9.  Nebraska Now
