  • Star City Pride is hosting a food drive this weekend to help those affected by the SNAP freeze—partnering with shops and restaurants in Lincoln and Omaha to collect donated goods that will go to two local nonprofits. Donations will be accepted until the end of today.  Nebraska Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lincolnites learned about Dia de los Muertos yesterday at the Nebraska History Museum where visitors built ofrendas and decorated sugar skulls—this event marked the start of a two-day holiday honoring loved ones who passed away. Community partners including El Centro and the Nebraska Commission on Latino Americans helped share Mexican traditions with families.  KOLN
  • Lincolnite John Shaw published his book Cameron the Capitol Cat: A Portrait in Light, Stone, and Fur that shows photos of the Capitol and its famous feline resident—his work captures a beloved local icon.  Lincoln Journal Star

  • Susan Alleman said rising costs in the federal health care marketplace may force a disenrollment crisis if enhanced tax credits expire at the end of the year—advocates warn many Nebraska residents could lose coverage.  Lincoln Journal Star

SPORTS NEWS

  • At a Lincoln game Saturday night, Nebraska football played in all black against No. 23 USC to honor a blackout theme and replaced their usual scarlet and cream with black uniforms, field decor, and balloons—marking their first blackout game in Lincoln. Fans and players praised the unique presentation and expressed enthusiasm for future themed games.  KOLN
  • The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team swept the 11th-ranked Wisconsin Badgers 25-22, 25-19, 25-13 at the Wisconsin Field House on Oct. 31 in front of 7,229 fans. The Huskers extended their sweep streak to 12 and will host Oregon today at 1 p.m. at John Cook Arena—part of the Big Ten Discover Challenge.  KFOR
  • Teams that won district finals, including Ogallala, Cambridge, Dundy County-Stratton and Mullen, now prepare for state volleyball tournaments with first-round matches set to start November 5 at PBA #1—schedule details list match-ups and times from 9AM to 7PM across various classes.  KNOP
  • At Memorial Stadium Friday night, Nebraska lost 21-17 to No. 23 USC—quarterback Dylan Raiola injured his ankle in the third quarter, and the loss dropped the Huskers to 6-3, ending their playoff chance. The Huskers will head west on Saturday to face UCLA with freshman TJ Lateef stepping in.  Nebraska Now
