COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Salvation Army will team with local Hy-Vee stores and Broadcast House Media to host TurkeyThon in Lincoln on Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The event will help provide Thanksgiving dinners for over 650 families—donations will be accepted at any Hy-Vee register and a live radio broadcast will run from 2 to 4 p.m.  Fox Nebraska

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Lincoln’s Cajun restaurant A Taste of Louisiana will serve its final meal on Nov. 29 after nearly six years of offering authentic Louisiana flavors. The owner said the restaurant will complete Thanksgiving orders before closing—he hopes to open a food trailer later to keep Cajun dishes available.  Nebraska Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • The UNL museum at Morrill Hall offers free admission for visitors with SNAP or WIC cards and a photo ID under the Museums for All program. The museum also asks guests to bring food donations for the Husker Pantry winter drive to support local families.  KOLN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UNL faculty will meet on Nov. 18 to consider a no confidence vote in Chancellor Rodney Bennett as he plans up to $27.5 million in budget cuts and faces criticism for his leadership—faculty are worried about his overall work and want a prompt review by university officials.  KOLN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former Dunbar State Senator Julie Slama suspended her campaign for state treasurer on November 5 and said she supports newly appointed treasurer Fremont Mayor Joey Spellerberg + she will endorse him in the 2026 election after Tom Briese stepped down for family reasons.  KFOR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Ally Dering-Anderson from UNMC teaches a course on medical cannabis that covers its history, chemistry and dosing—she said growing research shows the plant may help treat pain, anxiety and other symptoms when used properly. She noted that while federal law still classifies cannabis as a Schedule I drug, many states have legalized its medical use based on new evidence.  KOLN

SPORTS NEWS

  • A record field of over 9,000 runners will participate in Nebraska’s largest half-marathon on Sunday—starting at Seacrest Field at 8:30 a.m. and following a course through local landmarks before finishing near The Railyard—promising a busy day for the event.  Nebraska Now
  • Beatrice head football coach Jeff Kezeor announced his retirement after 21 years in a press release by athletic director Cale Kaiser on Wednesday morning. He built his program on strong values—focusing on teamwork and character—which many say shaped players on and off the field.  Nebraska Now
  • At Pinnacle Bank Arena on Wednesday and today, high school teams competed in the state volleyball tournament — in Class B, Norris and Waverly won their matches; in Class C1, Malcolm upset Lincoln Lutheran and Milford beat Adams Central; and in Class A, Lincoln North Star swept Lincoln Southeast while Lincoln Southwest fell, with the tournament set to resume tomorrow.  Nebraska Now
