COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Capital Humane Society reopened its pet pantry to serve everyone amid the government shutdown after distributing over 20,000 pounds of dry pet food this year. The shelter expects more pet owners to face challenges as SNAP benefits pause—donations of pet food and supplies are needed at its Lincoln locations.  KOLN

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A Taste of Louisiana, a north Lincoln restaurant known for community service, will close its doors on November 29 — it has served authentic Cajun cuisine and given free meals to local residents since June 2020.  KOLN
  • A United Airlines flight from Denver scheduled for Lincoln on Sunday was canceled on Thursday — airlines are cutting capacity at Lincoln Airport, affecting travel plans for passengers.  Lincoln Journal Star

CULTURE NEWS

  • Iconic rock band Journey will perform on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln — part of their Final Frontier Tour after more than 50 years of shows. Citi cardmembers will get presale tickets on November 11 at 10 a.m. while general tickets go on sale on November 14.  KOLN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • SDSU Extension, ISU Extension, and Nebraska Extension will host a beef technology series at the Eastern Nebraska Research Extension and Education Center in Ithaca on Nov. 14 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. CST — the event will teach beef producers about precision livestock technologies with sessions on virtual fencing, wearable ear tags, and a trailer demonstration while providing lunch and vendor displays for $30.  Fox Nebraska

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lincoln — Lancaster County Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen announced the first I Voted sticker design contest, inviting residents to submit designs for stickers that will be given to voters returning ballots and to children of voting adults. Artists may submit entries via the Election Commission website, by email, or in person at 601 North 46th St. — the deadline is December 5 at 4:30 p.m.  Fox Nebraska
  • Local officials announced that 66th Street between Vine and Starr will close Monday for private water service installation — residents are advised to use Vine Street to North Cotner Boulevard as a detour. Work is scheduled to be completed by Nov. 14.  Nebraska Now
  • Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird announced two new childcare initiatives on Thursday, one directing $250,000 of federal funds to assist over 250 families with daycare tuition for 83 children and another proposing zoning changes to ease the building and expansion of childcare centers — plans for the zoning changes will be shared in December.  Nebraska Now
  • The City of Lincoln announced a new way for drivers to pay for parking meters by texting (Park to 30844) to start a session while coin payments and the Passport Parking app remain available.  KOLN
  • Nebraska families using the Affordable Care Act may see their health insurance costs double by January as enhanced tax credits expire December 31 & Congress has not renewed them, affecting low & moderate-income residents and up to 140,000 people amid the shutdown stalemate.  KNOP

  • Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola underwent surgery in New York to fix a broken fibula and began his recovery—Coach Matt Rhule said he will miss the rest of the season while freshman TJ Lateef will start in the UCLA game set for Saturday at 8 p.m.  KNOP
