- ➤ The NDOL team is hosting a veterans career fair today to help service members meet local employers. The event gives veterans a chance to find work after serving the country—supporting their move to civilian life. KNOP
- ➤ The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with Kicks for Kids Nebraska to collect new shoes for children in need during the holiday season — LSO teammates will contribute and receive special dress and grooming provisions in November and December. KOLN

- ➤ A Lincoln woman and beloved pediatrician *Dr. Katherine Gogela* was killed Friday afternoon when she was struck by a vehicle while crossing Mopac Trail *in a fatal accident*. Lincoln Journal Star

- ➤ A new Axios report shows that restaurants using DoorDash in Lincoln have a 97.3% one-year survival rate. The high rate is linked to steady local support—people in Lincoln choose to back their neighborhood eateries. Nebraska Now
- ➤ Summit Lawns in Lincoln announced it will pay $30 an hour to attract extra workers for shoveling snow from driveways and sidewalks — the company needs 20—30 helpers to cover many commercial and home jobs and will offer simple training for the work. Nebraska Now

- ➤ The University of Nebraska-Lincoln will host its Land Management Quarterly webinar at noon CST on November 17—experts will review county-level cash rental rates, ARC and PLC options, and leasing issues. The session will also feature an Ask the Experts segment for live questions. Fox Nebraska
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ukrainians in Nebraska held an appreciation event Friday at the House of Prayer in north Lincoln to honor about 100 neighbors for supporting Ukraine since Russia invaded in February 2022. Officials including Gov. Jim Pillen + community leaders were recognized for helping displaced Ukrainians and strengthening local ties during the ongoing conflict. Nebraska Examiner
- ➤ Judge Arlen Beam, known for his calm temperament and small-town roots from Stapleton, served 38 years on the federal bench and wrote over 2,700 opinions before he died on Oct. 31 at 95. A public memorial service for him and his wife is planned for noon on Nov. 21 at Eastridge Presbyterian Church in Lincoln — burial is private. Nebraska Examiner

- ➤ Teddy, a 7-year-old boy with a rare genetic disorder, had surgery at UCLA to implant an RNS device that has cut his seizures from thousands a month to 20 to 40. His parents now plan to support the use of medical cannabis to improve his sleep and reduce medication costs as he makes progress in physical therapy toward greater independence. KOLN

- ➤ Nebraska volleyball players received three Big Ten weekly awards when team members were honored on Monday; Andi Jackson was named co-Big Ten Player of the Week, Bergen Reilly earned Setter of the Week, and Laney Choboy received her first Defensive Player of the Week award.
