EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Nebraska Department of Education reported a $30 million error in school funding that overpaid Omaha Public Schools and will affect Grand Island and Southern Schools—Gov. Pillen said the confusing TEEOSA formula must be replaced so schools can adjust their budgets in the future. Sen. Myron Dorn added that the new School Finance Review Commission may offer fresh ideas as lawmakers continue to struggle with reform, and the state must address these funding challenges soon. KOLN
- ➤ Yesterday, education professionals and members of the School Finance Review Commission met with state legislators to discuss the TEEOSA funding formula and issues like teacher shortages and burnout. The commission will send its first report on Dec. 1 and the Legislature will reconvene for a 60-day session starting Jan. 7—steps that aim to keep classroom quality a top priority. KOLN
- ➤ The UNL Food Processing Center held an open house Thursday where visitors saw how pasta, cereals, dairy products, and pet food are processed and toured labs, training rooms, and food safety services — a program that supports manufacturers and students. - ➤ Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird thanked local organizations for their part in the Mayor’s Local Food Challenge, which generated 289 orders with 38 regional suppliers and nearly $600,000 spent from July through October. The program connected businesses, schools and restaurants to local farmers & will open registration for the 2026 challenge in late spring. KFOR

HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Nebraska Community Blood Bank will ask local residents to donate blood from November 23 to November 30 to help hospitals prepare for winter after last Thanksgiving’s drop in donations. Donors will receive a festive long-sleeved t-shirt and the campaign aims to boost supplies (current levels are about a 4-day overall supply and a 3-day supply for type O blood). KOLN
- ➤ Bryan Health joined TEFCA, a federal plan to share patient records securely, to let providers access complete histories & improve care for nearly 300,000 patients using its Epic system. KOLN

- ➤ The top-ranked Nebraska volleyball team clinched a share of the Big Ten title with a sweep over Iowa at the Bob Devaney Center—winning 25—15, 25—21, 25—18. Harper Murray led the team with 11 kills, and the Huskers will face No. 17 Indiana Saturday at 5 p.m. at Wilkinson Hall. Nebraska Now
- ➤ The Nebraska men’s basketball team opened the Hall of Fame Classic today at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City by beating New Mexico 84—72. Jamarques Lawrence led with 21 points while redshirt freshman Braden Frager added 20 points. Nebraska Now
- ➤ Nebraska sports facility projects are stalled because Gov. Pillen has postponed his vote on the state incentive funding—required under the Sports Arena Facility Financing Assistance Act—until June, which delays plans for projects like a $63 million volleyball complex. Nebraska Examiner
