COMMUNITY NEWS

  • People’s City Mission has seen a surge in guests as it now shelters over 400 people after the first snowfall, even though the facility was built for 250. Pastor Tom said the mission is working with local churches to secure extra space and serve food to everyone in need.  Nebraska Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Companies can now register for the 9th Annual Lincoln Corporate Games and the 6th Annual Omaha Corporate Games and save $2,000 if they sign up by Jan. 31st. The events, which promote team building and wellness, will start in August and are limited to the first 50 companies in each city.  Fox Nebraska

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lincoln native Audrey Eckert started competing in pageants at age 9 and won Miss Nebraska Teen USA in 2020 before earning the title of Miss Nebraska USA this spring. In October she became the second Nebraskan to win Miss USA—she now plans to promote online safety, mentor local athletes, and make public appearances representing her community.  KOLN
  • The Community Health Endowment of Lincoln announced Monday that it awarded a $5 million grant to a nonprofit representing the city's cultural centers to build a shared building—its largest grant ever; the nonprofit said the project will create an updated space for cultural events.  Lincoln Journal Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lincoln Public Schools moved up the high school choice deadline to January 5 for 8th graders so families can register earlier—information nights start today at Northwest High School and continue Wednesday at Northeast High School.  KOLN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department said that South Cotner Boulevard between A and Randolph will close today for utility work by Lincoln Electric System and is expected to reopen on Thursday. Drivers should use the detour via Randolph, South 48th and A Streets.  Nebraska Now
  • Four utility companies, including Lincoln Electric System and Nebraska Public Power District, signed a memorandum to form the Great Plains New Nuclear Consortium to study the feasibility of deploying up to 2,000 megawatts of new nuclear energy in Nebraska—coordinated by NPPD—through studies of site evaluations and technology assessments. No construction or investment decisions have been made as the consortium works to address the regional energy demand.  KOLN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bruce Gottsleben— a longtime season ticket holder— said fans may have to pay premium resale prices for Nebraska volleyball postseason tickets as the team enters the NCAA Division 1 Championship tournament after an undefeated regular season; Lincoln home games have sold out and extra tickets will be available on Dec. 3.  Nebraska Now
  • Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule fired defensive coordinator John Butler effective immediately after a 40-16 loss to Iowa on Black Friday — interim defensive coordinator Phil Snow will lead the team in the upcoming bowl game. The team will name a new coordinator for the 2026 season in the coming weeks.  Nebraska Now
