COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Capital Humane Society in Lincoln is cutting adoption fees at the Pieloch Pet Adoption Center by 50% from Tuesday through Dec. 21 — additional fees may apply for rabies and license services. Local residents can check available animals on the humane society’s website.  Nebraska Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lincoln Transportation and Utilities announced 25 finalists for its Name That Snowplow contest on Monday, with residents able to vote for the winning name until Dec. 19 & the chosen names set to appear on eight city plows.  KOLN
  • The Nebraska Public Service Commission Grain Department debuts at the Nebraska Ag Expo today at Sandhills Global Event Center in Lincoln (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.), where staff will share grain industry insights and offer resources for local producers and dealers.  Fox Nebraska

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A new Zillow report shows that 36% of Lincoln homes lost value over the past year compared with 53% nationwide; realtor Joanne McCoy of Woods Bros Realty said slower market shifts can be linked to seasonal trends (higher rates are also limiting buyers).  Nebraska Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • The undefeated Nebraska women’s basketball team was ranked No. 24 in the AP top 25 poll after beating Penn State in its Big Ten opener on Saturday and will try to extend its win streak in a game against Omaha today at Pinnacle Bank Arena.  Nebraska Now
  • On Monday, Dec. 8, the 1890 Nebraska Collective told donors it was winding down operations by no longer accepting donations after an NCAA change that lets schools pay athletes directly. Husker Athletic Fund will manage NIL funds, and athletic director Troy Dannen is set to announce next steps soon.  Nebraska Now
  • On Dec. 7, Nebraska defeated Creighton 71-50 at Pinnacle Bank Arena as Mast scored 20 points to keep the Huskers unbeaten for 13 games; the team built a double-digit lead early and held off Creighton’s comeback attempts.  KFOR
