COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Farmer Bill from our community has collected coats and winter gear for Pine Ridge Reservation residents for 10 years to help them stay warm during bitter winter months. Donations can be dropped off at Meadowlark Coffee + Goldenrod Bakery, Tamayta Food Market, The Hub Café, and Euphoria until Dec. 21.  KOLN
  • Lincoln has finished construction on its first permanent supportive housing facility called The Jay at 8th and J streets, which now offers housing and support for up to 24 residents. City and CenterPointe staff provide 24-hour care & case management to help residents rebuild independence.  KOLN
  • People’s City Mission will hold Channel 8’s winter coat drive today at its Help Center to support families coping with the cold, as Pastor Tom Barber said that raising 5,000 coats could quickly fill the need — donations will go directly onto the shopping racks.  Nebraska Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Lincoln officials and the Chamber of Commerce will cut the ribbon this morning for Breeze Airways' first non-stop flight to Orlando— the new twice-weekly service set to depart later today as part of the airline's expansion to Las Vegas and Orange County, with a special guest expected.  KOLN
  • Breeze Airways launched flight service from Lincoln to Orlando on Dec. 10, 2025 when its first flight departed at 1:30 p.m. with Mickey Mouse at a celebratory ribbon cutting, and the airline will operate flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  KFOR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • NU sports teams earned 117 Fall Academic All-Big Ten awards yesterday, led by 81 football players, 13 cross country runners, 14 soccer players, and nine volleyball players, according to the conference. Several athletes were honored multiple times for meeting academic requirements at NU.  Nebraska Now
  • Lincoln Public Schools will purchase 6,450 Chromebooks for sixth and incoming ninth graders and new wheelchair buses later this month pending proposal approval. The district says the move will boost digital learning in local schools.  Lincoln Journal Star

  • At Pinnacle Bank Arena on Tuesday night, Nebraska women's basketball beat Omaha 87-35 as Callin Hake tied his career high with 17 points and the Huskers improved to 10-0, matching a record for 10 straight 80+ point games.  KFOR
  • The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is expanding John Cook Arena with roughly 2,000 new seats and chairbacks to boost capacity to over 10,000 for upcoming volleyball games. Upgrades including new courtside, box, and ADA seating will begin in June (2026) to modernize the venue.  Nebraska Now
