COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Good Neighbor Center in Lincoln is offering free Christmas shopping for grandparents to pick gifts for their grandkids up to age 11 by appointment in 30-minute sessions each weekday. Residents can call 402-477-4173 to check qualification or donate larger toys.  KOLN
  • Catholic Social Services (CSS) is urging families to reserve a Christmas food basket from its annual Lincoln Food Market program as reservations end soon; the baskets include a meal with turkey or ham and cheerful decorations by local students to brighten the season.  Nebraska Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Lincoln’s new parking software lets fans buy game-day passes & park hourly in downtown garages, keeping revenue on par with last season. The system is part of efforts to improve parking during busy games.  Lincoln Journal Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Career Academy hosted a dinner and networking event in Lincoln to mark the first semester of its Early Childhood Education pathway. Students from Lincoln High, Southeast, Northeast, Southwest and Independence Academy met with local childcare providers as the two-year program builds skills for a childcare career.  Fox Nebraska

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services suspended the license of Children’s Circle Montessori School in east Lincoln last week after a child was left unsupervised in a freezing cold garage during nap time at a center for kids (ages 2-6) and a capacity of 35.  Nebraska Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • After a competitive fall season, Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture Shotgun Sports Team finished strong by hosting the Bring Home the Bacon Trap/Skeet Shoot at Curtis Gun Range (raising funds for travel and equipment) and competing in Lincoln where athletes set personal bests.   • Terence 'Bud' Crawford, an undefeated boxing champion who beat Canelo Alvarez in September to become unified super middleweight champ, announced his retirement on Tuesday in Lincoln and ended his career with a perfect 42-0 record and 31 knockouts.  Nebraska Now
