  • Arodí Díaz (44) moved from México last year and is building her future through English classes at Lincoln Literacy while gaining confidence to pursue a Ph.D. at UNL. Her progress helps show how new community members find better opportunities in our city.  Nebraska News Service

  • Gov. Pillen (after a 25% cut) announced plans to fully fund a $15 million startup program and shift support from general funds to cash funds; he said the program returns nearly $6 for every $1 spent (promising strong returns) and will be reviewed when the legislature reconvenes on Jan. 7.  Nebraska Examiner

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Nebraska women’s basketball team moved to No. 20 in the latest AP Top 25 poll released Monday after an 87-56 win over Cal Baptist at Pinnacle Bank Arena; the Huskers, 12-0 on the season, will play USC on Dec. 29 at 2 p.m.  KNOP
  • On Dec. 22, 2022, Malachai Coleman signed with the Huskers on the first day of the early signing period, marking a key moment in college sports history.  KNOP
  • Nebraska volleyball ended its season ranked No. 3 with 1,385 points in the final AVCA poll released Monday after a regional loss to Texas A&M (the Aggies took the top spot).  Nebraska Now
  • Nebraska women's basketball moved up to No. 20 in the AP poll after beating Cal Baptist 87-56 on Sunday — the Huskers remain 12-0 and will host No. 17 USC at home on Dec. 29. They have scored 80-plus points in every win so far.  Nebraska Now
  • The Nebraska men’s basketball team moved up to No. 13 in the AP Top 25 poll after defeating North Dakota 78-55 at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Sunday, improving to a 12-0 record. They will host New Hampshire at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30.  KNOP
