- ➤ 81-year-old Joyce Boerger has spent a decade turning extra fabric into 400 to 600 colorful pillow cases each year donated to local charities. She uses her decades-old sewing machine and support from friends, family, and her church to help supply comfort at shelters and community groups. KOLN
- ➤ New volunteer Chloe Kreifels from Cake4Kids Eastern Nebraska delivered themed cupcakes to Compass Foster Care Tuesday, Dec. 23 in Lincoln—her first drop-off marking the 599th delivery that year. The nonprofit uses volunteer bakers and service agencies to brighten birthdays for vulnerable children. KOLN

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Nebraska caregivers may see their paid hours drop from 112 to 40 if the DHHS proposal is approved, and local families could feel the impact as officials review the changes. KNOP
- ➤ Nebraska’s minimum wage (currently $13.50 per hour) will increase to $15 per hour on Jan. 1 after voters passed the initiative last November. Annual adjustments will begin in 2027 to match the cost of living. KNOP
- ➤ Governor Pillen restored funding for the Business Innovation Act to $15 million after research showed the program yields nearly $6 in private investment for every state dollar spent. He shifted support to workforce development funds to ease pressure on the general fund ahead of the new legislative session. KOLN
