CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Lancaster County judge ruled Thursday that 46-year-old Alaric Harden, charged with first-degree murder in the death of 76-year-old Larry Cole from a north Lincoln home, is not mentally competent to stand trial and has been ordered to receive treatment at Lincoln Regional Center—his competency hearing is set for May 20 at 10 a.m. KOLN
- ➤ Garrett Hanika, 37, who rammed a Lincoln police cruiser and ran over his passenger in a hotel parking lot, was sentenced yesterday to 40-55 years in prison after taking a plea deal that amended two charges and dismissed four others. KOLN
- ➤ Police said a juvenile stabbed a woman in the back near 63rd and Lexington in the Bethany neighborhood at about 4 p.m.—her injuries were minor and the juvenile is in custody. Nebraska Now

- ➤ Mayor Gaylor Baird said proposed code changes to let homeowners and community gardens sell produce will help build food security and offer new chances for small growers. The Planning Commission will review the proposal April 16 and a City Council public hearing is set for 3 p.m. May 5—supporters believe the changes will boost local food access and preserve cultural produce. - ➤ Assemble Lincoln selected a site for a new convention center downtown on the Garfield public/private property across from the Cornhusker Hotel near 13th and M streets — the group will now reach out to landowners and submit Lancaster County’s Turn Back Tax application while planning for approvals, design and construction.
