CRIME NEWS

  • A Lincoln man was arrested on Thursday morning after he reportedly threatened to kill staff when he was asked to leave St. Thomas Aquinas Church—officers located him a few blocks away after he was found trespassing and acting belligerently.  KOLN
  • A Lincoln woman with a new Mercedes was charged with felony fraud Thursday after she was accused of illegally obtaining nearly $53,000 in Medicaid benefits—authorities are investigating the case.  Lincoln Journal Star
  • At a preliminary hearing this week — Judge Timothy Phillips bound Lincoln man Timothy Washington over to district court on 10 felony counts for a February crime spree that involved fatally shooting Philmoon Kuku, stabbing a friend, and stealing a car — after his attorney argued that mental health or substance use issues may have affected his intent.  Lincoln Journal Star

  • The seniors at Standing Bear High School held a sunrise celebration on the football field and shared coffee, donuts, games and camaraderie to mark the first graduating class— they planned a senior sunset next year to cap off their final school year.  KOLN

  • On Friday, Bishop James D. Conley said the McCook Work Ethic Camp should not be used to detain undocumented immigrants unless they commit crimes that threaten public safety. He urged government officials to enact immigration reform that treats every person with dignity—reflecting the diocese’s decades of weekly pastoral care at the camp.  KNOP

SPORTS NEWS

  • After Friday’s practice, Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule told reporters that Cincinnati will be a tough opponent due to their fast plays and strong receivers—he praised starter Jalyn Gramstad and backup TJ Lateef for their roles ahead of the game. The team will face Cincinnati on August 28 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN.  KFOR
  • HuskerMax’s Lincoln Arneal appeared on Channel 8 Friday to discuss the AVCA First Serve Showcase as Nebraska started its three-day tournament with a 6 p.m. match against No. 3 Pitt on FOX.
