If you've wondered where Lincoln grows next, look south. The City Council approved planning changes and agreements that could open about 971 acres near the South Beltway for housing, shops and industry. The area runs generally from South 27th Street to South 68th Street.
Lincoln Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Jason Ball talked it up Tuesday on KLIN's LNK Today. He said the plans mix market-rate and affordable housing, recreational trails and two employment parks. "All of that follows more rooftops," Ball said. He also said some traditional industrial areas are nearing floodplains, where building gets "very expensive or sometimes prohibitive."
- Planning Commission: unanimously recommended approval
- Saltillo Road: three roundabouts and one turn-lane improvement, in two phases
- Funding: some roadwork gets Lincoln on the Move support
